Steven Skinner is a TAFE SA lecturer and draws upon his 40-year career in the heavy engineering and defence industry. He specialises in the development of training methodologies that link industry best practice with tailored, hands-on training.

Two years ago, Steven was invited to develop and deliver an engineering program for school students participating in a new multi-trades program at TAFE SA’s Noarlunga campus.

Many participants in the program are on the autism spectrum or face language, literacy and numeracy challenges. Using the lecturer and student guides he created earlier for TAFE SA, Steven adapted the learning environment to suit different cohorts and the needs of individual participants.

The past two years have been the most challenging for Steven’s career. However, he has enjoyed the experience. He takes pride in knowing that no student is left behind, and he has played a part in turning around the lives of many young people.
