For nearly five years, Kate has been the Swinburne University of Technology Professional Writing and Editing Course Convenor where she instils in her students the confidence they need to work across a range of careers including multimedia communication, technical writing, marketing and journalism.

Kate Herbert has accrued more than 30 years’ experience in vocational education and training teaching, developing curricula and leading departments. For nearly five years, Kate has been the Swinburne University of Technology Professional Writing and Editing Course Convenor where she instils in her students the confidence they need to work across a range of careers including multimedia communication, technical writing, marketing and journalism.

As a teacher, Kate believes it is important to be flexible and adapt your teaching methods in order to connect with students. As many of her students come from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds with varied learning abilities, Kate tailors her teaching delivery to suit each person’s needs.

Kate delivers training in both the vocational education and training and higher education sectors and provides a cross-disciplinary approach to ensure their skills meet industry standards and enable them a career as professional writers and editors.

In her spare time, Kate is a playwright, director and performer and has lectured in the performing arts for many years. She is also a theatre reviewer who contributes more than 100 reviews each year to the Herald Sun newspaper, and to her blog at kateherberttheatrereviews.blogspot.com.
