The Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award recognises innovation and excellence by an individual involved in improving Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills in an educational, community or workplace context.
Eligibility criteria for the Australian Training Awards
Nominees must:
- meet the Australian Training Awards Conditions of Entry requirements
- have appropriate qualifications to deliver training to adult learners (as determined by the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015)
- have at least three years of professional experience delivering adult LLN training and/or have completed a post-graduate LLN qualification*
- have delivered LLN training to adult learners between 1 January 2023 and 30 April 2024
- submit their nomination here.
*Post-graduate LLN qualifications include, but are not limited to, the Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (TAE80113); and the Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Leadership (TAE80213).

Nominations are to be submitted by direct entry to the Australian Training Awards here.
Section A: Overview
This information will not be considered or used for judging purposes, but it may be used as your summary throughout the Awards process.
Provide an overview of your areas of expertise, qualifications, courses/classes taught, education and work background including a description of the environment in which you operate and any specific challenges which were encountered and may have had to be overcome during the course of your career.

Addressing the selection criteria
This information will be considered and used for judging purposes. In your nomination, you must present your information in a way that clearly addresses the award criteria.
The selection criteria should be the focus of the nomination. Up to five (5) single A4 pages of relevant evidence may be provided. Attachments exceeding 5 pages will not be considered.

Criterion 1: Excellence and innovation in LLN delivery
How have you demonstrated excellence and innovation in your approach to the design and delivery of adult LLN programs? For example, you may consider:
- innovative approaches to training program design, delivery and evaluation
- innovative approaches to deliver LLN training and assessment in flexible and engaging ways
- highly effective or unique methods for improving collaboration between vocational staff and foundation skills specialists
- strategies to integrate and contextualise LLN training
- collaboration and partnerships
- positive outcomes.

Criterion 2: Student focus/outcomes
How has your LLN teaching practice impacted positively on students? For example, you may consider:
- evidence of successful learning outcomes for students. These may be demonstrated by data, academic results, evidence of soft skill outcomes, or work or articulation/pathway outcomes
- strategies used to engage students with LLN needs or those from disadvantaged groups
- how information on student LLN needs and course satisfaction levels was acted upon to improve teaching practices
- how you recognise and act upon the student voice, such as incorporating individual strengths, goals, and meeting needs.

Criterion 3: Professionalism, leadership and collegiality
How have you demonstrated professionalism and leadership in LLN practice beyond your expected role? For example, you may consider:
- strategies to foster a shared approach and commitment to excellence in LLN teaching and learning across the nominees teaching department, organisation or workplace
- participation in groups or support networks with a view to engaging in professional dialogue, sharing best practice and identifying challenges
- evidence of a broad range of LLN accomplishments, including contributions to a body of knowledge on adult LLN training (eg articles, speaking engagements, or visits to other institutions/workplaces)
- acting as a mentor or guide for other LLN practitioners or VET trainers wishing to improve their LLN expertise
- renewal of skills and knowledge, including ongoing professional development and/or progress towards a higher LLN qualification
- vision for the future of LLN in VET and how you are contributing to this vision.

Criterion 4: Links with industry and/or community
How do you respond to the needs of industry and the community? For example, you may consider where you act beyond the required expectations to:
- forge stronger linkages with industry and/or community (e.g. through partnerships, networking and collaboration)
- acting as a workplace champion to promote LLN/foundation skills
- train or mentor colleagues.
Evidence may include testimonials or data from industry, business or community stakeholders relating to student achievements.
