Nicola Lang never dreamt that she would undergo a complete career change in her late 40s. For many years she had been very content working as a front desk receptionist at a hospital, until one day she was struck with a thought that would not leave her – the thought of studying to become an enrolled nurse.
In 2012, Nicola began what she has described as one of the most challenging and rewarding things she has ever done by undertaking a Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing) at TAFE Queensland South West. While studying, Nicola continued to work in the healthcare industry in patient care which allowed her to work closely with nurses and enjoy a first-hand training experience. Her studies, together with her experience in front office and patient care, meant that Nicola graduated as a multi skilled nurse aware of the hospital’s systems and processes, how to relate to patients and their families, and the workings of a busy ward.
Nicola is now working as an enrolled nurse at St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital and is keen to progress into the emergency and rehabilitation departments to further enhance her clinical skills and experience.
