Running his own small business, Shawn Du Venage wondered if his dream of becoming an electrician would ever come to fruition. He took a leap of faith and applied for an Australian Apprenticeship as an electrician with Power Water Corporation, considering it a personal and career challenge to not only return to school but also to start all over again in a new industry.
As a mature-age student at Charles Darwin University, Shawn worked towards his Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician while completing his apprenticeship and also running a café with his partner. Shawn was named Group Training Northern Territory’s Apprentice of the Year for 2013.
Shawn has received his A Class electrical licence and is now working as an operator/maintainer at Yulara Power Station.
