The Lyndoch Living Aged Care Training Initiative commenced in 2014 with the purpose of addressing workforce growth and skills shortages in the aged care sector in south west Victoria.
The Initiative is a partnership between aged care provider, Lyndoch Living and South West Institute of TAFE providing onsite training at Lyndoch Living’s Warrnambool site where students are integrated into day to day operations including interacting with residents and their families.
All students are trained and mentored by staff with current industry knowledge and graduate with the dual qualification of a Certificate III in Aged Care and a Certificate III in Home and Community Care.
While students are able to experience aged care, community, in-home services, allied health and nursing skills first hand, they also participate in theoretical based learning modules provided by South West Institute of TAFE’s online educational resources, including a simulated nursing laboratory.
To date, 32 people have graduated from the program as experienced and highly skilled aged care workers.
