Lisa Cherie Birnie is a proud Indigenous woman from the Kamilaroi Nation and an ambassador for her community. She had previously spent 12 years as a case manager in child protection and decided to pursue a career change.

Lisa Cherie completed a Certificate IV in Government under the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program with the Department of Defence and CIT Solutions.

Lisa Cherie commenced her traineeship seven months later than the other program participants, but quickly made up the time. The challenge taught her how far good time management can take you when coupled with drive, determination and a sound work ethic.

Lisa Cherie has held many leadership roles within her community, including Youth Leader for Indigenous Youth at Risk of Homelessness, Chair of Eurobodalla Family Support, and is an active member of the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. She is also a member of the Wanga Iindigi, which is involved in early intervention of Aboriginal youth crime prevention.
