With a keen interest in the ever-changing oil and gas industry, Joshua Antunovich applied for a trainee process operator position with Apprenticeships Australia, and has never looked back.
At the time, he was operating a successful stud-welding contract business in the mining sector and working towards an engineering degree at Curtin University. Joshua embarked on a two-year traineeship as a mature-age student, completing a Certificate II in Process Plant Operations during his first year, followed by a Certificate III in his second.
While most of the training was carried out onsite with host employer Woodside, Joshua also completed units at Challenger Institute of Technology’s Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training campus at Henderson, allowing him to gain valuable theoretical and
practical experience.
Working hard throughout his traineeship earned Joshua the Energy Apprenticeship Group High Achiever Trainee of the Year 2012, Group Training Western Australian Trainee of the Year 2012 and Group Training Australian Trainee of the Year 2013. Joshua has used these awards and his experience to promote traineeship and apprenticeship pathways through the media, mentoring and in the workplace.
