Jean Ditton began her language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) career at Nudgee International College in 2005. In the following decade, she has continued to teach LLN, supporting adult learners to access training and employment opportunities, with a particular commitment to migrants and refugees.
Jean joined TAFE Queensland in 2009 after time in the United States teaching English to migrants. Since then, she has taught AMEP and SEE language and literacy classes and supported migrant work experience students in Settlement Language Pathways to Employment and Training (SLPET). Jean has taught across all Australian Core Skills Framework levels, helping students participate socially, undertake more effective training or join the labour force.
Today, Jean continues her LLN work as SEE Work Observation Work Experience Coordinator at TAFE Queensland North’s Pimlico campus. In recent years, she has worked predominately with students from refugee backgrounds, gaining a reputation for classroom excellence and is valued by students for her commitment.
