A thirst for understanding how things work runs in Brodie Oakes’ family. After completing Year 12, Brodie sought advice from his father, a mechanical fitter, and the trade teachers at TAFE NSW - South Western Sydney Institute before confirming that a career in the manufacturing industry was for him.
Brodie started his Australian Apprenticeship in 2012 with MEGT (Australia) and host employer, Qenos – an Australian manufacturer and supplier of polyethylene and polymers.
During the fourth year of his Australian Apprenticeship, Brodie outshone his peers by designing, installing and fabricating a specialised resin filter box to solve a problem that would otherwise have cost his employer tens of thousands of dollars to rectify. So ingenious was Brodie’s solution, he won the company’s 2014 Environmental Award.
Now a fully qualified mechanical fitter, Qenos has chosen Brodie to lead a team of contractors providing the maintenance support for a major re-work of a gas refinery and chemical plant.
