Hana Chapman- Speering undertook work experience at an aged care provider in Year 11. After enjoying the experience, and wanting to gain a head start on her career, Hana commenced an Australian School-based Apprenticeship in aged care with the Australian Training Company and Villaggio Sant' Antonio in Canberra.
Working at Villaggio Sant' Antonio has allowed Hana to apply what she learns in practice. The experience has given Hana the opportunity to assist with the physical to psychological needs of residents and learn how to respond effectively to behaviours of concern. Hana has also been provided the opportunity to add to her competencies by attending a series of workshops from palliative care to dementia support.
Hana is particularly interested in the cause of dementia sufferers and would like to continue to learn more about the disease and eventually be able to educate others on how to care for dementia patients.
As an avid writer, Hana has a passion for writing short stories and she has begun writing stories relating to dementia in a bid to raise awareness of the disease.
