When Rachel Hounsell-Carey was new to Canberra and seeking employment, a friend suggested she register with an Indigenous employment agency. It was there she was mentored and was able to see the value of undertaking vocational education and training to improve her future career prospects.

When Rachel Hounsell-Carey was new to Canberra and seeking employment, a friend suggested she register with an Indigenous employment agency. It was there she was mentored and was able to see the value of undertaking vocational education and training to improve her future career prospects.

At the time, a position became available at the Australian National University (ANU) for a Trainee Information Officer. Having a keen interest in Information Technology, Rachel was connected with the Australian Training Company and Mantra Training and joined the ANU in January 2013.

In January 2015, Rachel completed a Certificate IV in Information Technology-Networking while working at the ANU’s College of Asia and the Pacific and now works in the ANU’s Information Technology department.

Rachel grew up in Nyngan, New South Wales and her passions include hockey, soccer, horse riding and motorbike riding. She is also passionate about giving back to the community and hopes to volunteer to support individuals with disabilities in the information technology industry.
