Certificate III in Laboratory Skills

RTO: ABC Training and Consulting

Employer: GTNT Group

Host Employer: Menzies School of Health Research

Porsche wants to make a positive difference in healthcare, especially for Aboriginal people and communities. Studying a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills and undertaking a traineeship with Menzies School of Health Research, Porsche is fulfilling her dream.

Through her traineeship, Porsche has learned more about the science behind medical laboratory work. She’s tested blood and germs, learned how to use equipment, analyse data, and has travelled with the Menzies HealthLAB team to remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.

Community development has been an integral part of Porsche’s training. She has developed strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and is involved in various community outreach programs, including the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Girls Academy and the STEM program at Millner Primary School.

Porsche has taken on leadership roles including running her own health promotion station at each Menzies HealthLAB, teaching students about the importance of looking after their health.

She has also represented Menzies at the Australasian Professional Society for Alcohol and Other Drugs conference, the Healthy Environments and Lives conference, and the Indigenous Allied Health Australia graduation with a pop-up information stand.

Porsche is proud of what she has achieved and values the skills and knowledge her traineeship has given her. Her traineeship has allowed her to connect with her people and work on country in ways she never thought possible, and she now encourages everyone to consider the benefits of doing a traineeship.
