Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design

RTO: North Metropolitan TAFE

Employer: Nani Creative

Growing up a Wongai man in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, Kevin has always been interested in art and design—although early on, his outlet was graffiti. After a few too many run-ins with the police, however he realised he needed to find a better way to express his creative talents.

Kevin found his pathway after he took a leap of faith and enrolled at TAFE to do a Certificate IV in Graphic Design. This was just the start of his VET journey and he has since gone on to complete both the Diploma and Advance Diploma of Graphic Design, wanting to understand just what makes a design good and how to extend his creative skills.

Above all, Kevin credits the collaborative creative experience as one he values highly and found the opportunity to work on live projects while training especially rewarding. He cites working with the Perth Cultural Centre to help produce their program for NAIDOC week in 2019 as one of many highlights of his training pathway. He was also selected to lead the student team in their graduation project.

The Diploma of Graphic Design has provided Kevin with the skills to able to start his own business, Nani Design, a graphic design company specialised in design for projects promoting Aboriginal Tourism and Business. The design studio is a 100% staffed by Aboriginal people, providing work opportunities to the community.
