Advanced Diploma of Cyber Security

RTO: North Metropolitan TAFE

Employer: Woodside Energy

Attending cyber security workshops inspired Kai to explore a career in cyber security. He wanted to help make a difference in protecting organisations, public infrastructure, people and their livelihoods from global cyber threats.

Kai completed multiple online courses and competitions before enrolling in a Certificate III at North Metropolitan TAFE. Citing this pathway as the best way into industry and higher education, he progressed through to the Advanced Diploma and at just 16 years old secured a part-time job as a security analyst at Woodside Energy cyber security operations.

Among many firsts, Kai was the first student to spend over 70 hours in the North Metropolitan TAFE Training Security Operations Centre where he developed custom Splunk dashboards and created an incident response procedure for other students to use. He is now working full time at Woodside and is the youngest security analyst on staff.

Kai’s TAFE lecturers nominated him for the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) Cyber Security Student of the Year Award where he attended the AISA conference as one of 3 national cybersecurity finalists. In August 2023, Kai won a gold medal at the WorldSkills Australia National Championship and has been selected to represent Australia at the WorldSkills International competition in 2024.
