Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology
RTO: Kangan Institute
School: Cranbourne Secondary College
Employer: Mercury Marine Australia
Joachim’s two great passions are water activities and disassembling things to figure out how they work. He has combined these two passions by studying a Certificate III for Marine Mechanics at Kangan Institute.
Joachim chose a School-based Apprenticeship to learn hands-on skills, while getting a head-start on his ideal career, by graduating high school with 2 years of work experience.
One valuable skill he’s learnt through training is time management, admitting that balancing work and school life can be difficult. Joachim demonstrates enthusiasm, motivation, and initiative at work every day. He examines the list of daily tasks and gets stuck in rather than waiting for instruction from his boss. He’s learned how to fully service and dispose of engine oils safely, and now he can successfully and independently service marine outboard engines.
Once he’s fully qualified, Joachim hopes to join the army as a marine mechanic. In 2023, Joachim was awarded Kangan Institute’s Automotive Apprentice of the Year: School-based Award.
