Completing a Certificate III in Engineering—Mechanical Trade with Fortescue Metals Group Ltd was life-changing for Anthony. It provided him with confidence, personal and professional growth, as well as allowing him to become a mentor to his family and community. 

Throughout his apprenticeship, Anthony developed a strong foundation in teamwork and communication skills, understanding through collaborating with others, success can be achieved. He has shared this new-found knowledge with friends, family and colleagues, inspiring and motivating others to consider a training journey.  

Through the unwavering support from his employer and lecturers at Australian Skills Group during personal hardships, Anthony was supported to navigate through to successfully progress his studies and complete his apprenticeship—one of his long-standing goals. 

The apprenticeship has helped shape the person he has become—capable, empathetic and resourceful. Anthony says “This opportunity has fostered significant growth, both professionally and personally, instilling confidence, pragmatism, and authenticity in my day-to-day life. But most importantly, it makes my kids proud!" 

Since completing his apprenticeship, Anthony has gained a new position within the shift maintenance team at Fortescue’s Anderson Point in Port Hedland. He continues to advocate for vocational education and training within his community, of which he is deeply connected. He is now ready to tackle any obstacles and plans on continuing his training pathway in engineering.
