Employer: North Metropolitan TAFE
Anthony is an Advanced Skills Lecturer in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Course in Applied Vocational Study Skills, working with both migrants and vocational students at North Metropolitan TAFE in Western Australia.
Even before beginning work as an ESL lecturer at the TAFE 20 years ago, Anthony had already demonstrated a passion for language and literacy. He has spent time as a Head Teacher and Course Developer for a corporate English training company in Tokyo, studied a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics, and volunteered with refugees from Afghanistan at the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees.
Since beginning his work at North Metropolitan TAFE in 2003, Anthony has helped thousands of adult ESL learners advance their English skills. Anthony’s passion for the sector has seen him teach at-risk youth, develop an e-Learning course, mentor colleagues in e-Learning, and provide language, literacy and numeracy support for adult vocational learners.
Outside of TAFE, Anthony has run an independent food magazine as an editor and writer, developed an English course for a social enterprise bakery in Sydney and is consultant chef and trainer for a social enterprise food truck run by refugees.
