Certificate III engineering Mechanical Trade (diesel fitting)
Employer: Hastings Deering
Auto electrician Andy Creber watched Caterpillar-trained tradies at work and said to himself “I could do that with a bit of training”. So he did, even though it meant becoming an apprentice again.
In his previous career, Andy worked with diesel fitters and his role expanded into hydraulics and diagnostics, which gave him a taste of the trade. He applied for the 2016 intake as an apprentice at Hastings Deering where he completed his apprenticeship in mid-2020 and is now a leading hand in the workshop.
Andy found his previous experience in auto electrical, hydraulics and diagnostics was a tremendous help to him as he learned his new trade and completed his apprenticeship six months earlier than expected.
Andy prides himself on his communication skills and willingness to help apprentices, passing his knowledge to new apprentices to enhance their experiences in their apprenticeship.
