Certificate III in Government

RTO: Aspire Performance Training

Employer: Public Sector Commission

Having always wanted to pursue a career that was meaningful, challenging and would make a positive impact on the lives of many Western Australians, Amber applied for the Public Sector Commission’s Aboriginal Traineeship Program, knowing it would give her a ‘foot in the door’ to government.

Amber made the most of her placement with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, gaining practical knowledge while studying for a Certificate III in Government through Aspire Performance Training and then went on to work at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

Throughout her traineeship, Amber proactively sought opportunities to further her career and expand networks, establishing a reputation as a highly competent team member who consistently displays leadership, collaboration, respect and integrity. She was invited to co-MC the 140 William NAIDOC event in November 2020 where she presented to 40 staff across six agencies and the event was live streamed online.

Amber says the experience has allowed her to develop an awareness of how working in government can make a positive difference to the lives of people in the community. It has also helped to develop her confidence and communication skills to raise awareness of Aboriginal culture.
