Thalia Wilkinson wanted hands on experience in a real workforce sooner than most others her age. With the help of her school, Swan Valley Anglican Community School, and employment support group, Worklink, she enrolled in an Australian School-based Apprenticeship with a view to becoming an electrician.

Now employed by Collins Electrical, and trained off the job by Polytechnic West, Thalia enjoys the combination of practical work, theory and diverse work placements. Thalia has already had experience on a range of general electrical maintenance including electrical work for the City of Stirling to domestic and commercial construction sites.

Thalia believes that undertaking an Australian School-based Apprenticeship has also improved her communication skills. She aims to further her skills and complete a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety at the same time as she completes her apprenticeship training.
