Daniel O’Brien has always had a passion to help people and make a difference in his community. Keen to challenge himself, at only 15 he embarked on an Australian School-based Apprenticeship in the healthcare sector and now sees it as the only place for his future career.
Daniel enjoys the diversity of his role as a trainee at the Caboolture Hospital. On a weekly basis, he has the opportunity to assist with patient care, transferring of patients, administrative duties and assisting with surgery preparations. The practical experiences and theoretical learning provided by Daniel’s training has helped to shape his career aspirations. His Australian School-based Apprenticeship has confirmed his desire to pursue a career in medicine which he hopes to begin next year.
An outstanding student in both mathematics and English subjects, Daniel was awarded the St Columban’s College 2014 Highest Academic Achievement Award for Mathematics and the same year won an ABC Radio competition for writing a short story on his sometimes confronting experiences in healthcare.
