When Jack finished school he had no idea what to do, and so when the opportunity arose to enrol in a duel trade taster program, he jumped at the chance. Throughout the program, Jack found a real passion for electrical work. He has always enjoyed problem solving and finding out how things work. Jack knew the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician would give him exactly what he was looking for. “The world is changing so much, and it feels good to know I'm in a career path that is in line with the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions,” Jack says.
Jack’s experience throughout his apprenticeship taught him the importance of being a good leader, holding himself accountable, having a good attitude, communicating well, managing time and just being reliable. He acknowledges that he owes a lot of his success to the tradespeople who have mentored him and he is proud to have learned from such great role models.
After completing his apprenticeship, Jack has responsibility for his own apprentices. Jack says “as a qualified tradie, I know it is now my responsibility to guide and mentor younger people in the industry”.
These days, Jack is a strong advocate for VET and actively shares his experience with others. He says his apprenticeship has provided him with industry experience and real-world learning, as well as earning money while he trained. “If I could go back and tell 15 year old Jack this, I might have been qualified a lot sooner!” Jack says.
