Emma, a proud Ngemba woman, joined the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program in the Australian Public Service where she studied a Diploma of Government with the Canberra Institute of Technology. Emma chose the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program to set an example for her son and to give him the best possible life. She wanted a stable income, to expand her skillset and to network with various people. Most importantly, Emma wants to give back to the community and be a role model by demonstrating that people can achieve anything if they give it a try.
After completing her Diploma, Emma secured a permanent position as a Customer Service Officer at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and has made valuable connections with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employee Network. This year, Emma hosted a NAIDOC event in her Canberra office. She used her training and her leadership skills to deliver an event that is close to her heart.
Emma acknowledges the pathways and opportunities that vocational education and training gives Indigenous people. Her Indigenous Apprenticeship Program coordinator commends her dedication, and her enthusiastic and mature approach to her studies and work. Emma is proud of her accomplishments and is looking forward to learning more.
