Sophie is undertaking a Certificate IV in Education Support traineeship at the Canberra Institute of Technology and is employed by the ACT Education Directorate. She was working in telecommunications in the Australian Government before deciding she wanted a change. When Sophie was appointed as a learning support assistant at Monash Primary School, she instantly saw this was the career for her.

Sophie believes the traineeship pathway has allowed her to learn from colleagues and develop professional confidence.

Sophie is the manager of her school’s social club and is the team manager for the Canberra Nationals Women’s Basketball team. Throughout the remote learning period in 2020, Sophie also volunteered to connect with some of the school’s most vulnerable families through daily online sessions. This included supporting individual learning and wellbeing check-ins with families. She was also responsible for coordinating a Mother’s Day drive-through breakfast to acknowledge the support of parents and carers facilitating home learning.
