TasTAFE is pivotal to skilling Tasmania’s workforce. It works with government and industry to meet skills needs and to support economic growth. TasTAFE trains 20,000 students and focuses on job-readiness and employment outcomes. It recently recruited 25 industry experts to respond to increased demand for more nurses and apprentices.

In 2020, the institute embraced the challenges of COVID-19 and quickly transitioned to digitally supported learning. Along with a plan to reinstate practical training as soon as it was safe to do so. The institute is now more digitally connected and is embedding the innovations gained to improve its training.

The institute will play a crucial role in the state’s recovery from COVID-19. Thousands of people lost their jobs or had their hours reduced due to the pandemic. TasTAFE is responding and seeking to retrain and upskill people for employment options in the years ahead.
