Certficate IV in Veterinary Nursing

Employer: Rose City Vets

Nicole Barrow has always known she wanted to work in a profession related to animals. During her school years, she worked at a thoroughbred stud on weekends. After completing year 12 at the end of 2016, Nicole got a job at a Warmblood breeding facility.

Nicole signed up for a traineeship at Rose City Veterinary Hospital in Benalla and began her course at the start of 2017.

Working in a small practice with only two veterinarians on duty at any one time meant Nicole got a lot of first-hand experience dealing with different kinds of emergencies. This often meant managing a situation before a veterinarian arrived on the scene.

She’s often called on to mentor work experience students at the clinic, which involves teaching and instructing them in specific tasks.

Nicole was recently awarded Student of the Year at the Box Hill Institute.
