Aiming to protect and restore key ecosystems in the mid-west of Australia, a multi-partner collaboration formed between Central Regional TAFE, Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, City of Greater Geraldton, and WA Museum.

The focus was initially on restoring habitats at the Houtman Abrolhos islands and managing invasive aquatic species in the mid-west.

The collaboration has been significant for students, employers, the local community and the environment. Students receive training while working on real world high priority projects that involve multiple potential employers and industry stakeholders.

As examples, approximately 216 VET students have been trained through the Abrolhos islands project over a four year period, while approximately 320 VET students have been trained through the Invasive aquatic species project.
