Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising

After taking a short course to learn how to sew, Sarah Twyford made the unconventional career change from pharmacist to fashion designer.

Inspired by the ‘Sew Your Own Fashion’ course at TAFE SA, Sarah took the leap and enrolled in an Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising

Last year Sarah designed for the runway at the Adelaide Fashion Festival as part of the TAFE SA showcase. During that process, she was able to develop and present her design to industry representatives, including the creative director of the festival for judging and feedback.

Her creative use of design at the Australasian Young Designer Wool Awards won her the Handbury Scholarship, which sent her to study fashion in Milan, one of the fashion capitals of the world.

Sarah is now developing her own Australian-based label that she hopes to launch at the end of 2018.
