Edward John Eyre High School (EJEHS) has a complex and diverse student body, with about half the students being above compulsory education age and coming to school from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

To cater for the complex range of student learning needs, the school offers a variety of curriculum pathway options, with the largest being its VET programs.

EJEHS works in partnership with TAFE SA to deliver 18 courses across Certificate II and III levels. The school prides itself on providing a breadth of curriculum offerings for its students, giving them flexibility in their subject choices and the opportunity to identify a subject package to include a VET course that suits their needs.

Whyalla has been through some tough economic times in recent years, and having a strong focus on education keep people connected and positions them to take advantage of opportunities when the economic environment improves. The VET pathways program offered by EJEHS is seen by the community as a positive way to keep students engaged in education.
