Certificate III in Sport and Recreation

With significant sporting achievements in rugby league and swimming, the chance to complete a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation while still attending school suited Nicholas Muir’s career aspirations. He accepted the opportunity to undertake an Australian School-based Apprenticeship at Marymount Primary School, beginning a direct pathway towards embarking on a teaching degree.

Since starting his traineeship, Nicholas has worked in the school swimming program, helping refine his teaching skills and cement his position as a role model encouraging leadership and good sportsmanship. Nicholas is also a peer mentor to younger Aboriginal students in his school community.

Experiencing fitness teaching before commencing his degree is helping Nicholas reinforce his future employment goal. He believes Australian School-based Apprenticeships offer an invaluable opportunity to try out an industry while still deciding on a career pathway and would encourage his peers to undertake one if they had the chance.
