It was while studying music that Jared realised he enjoyed the technical aspects of sound recording, playback, and the electrical theory associated with the subjects. To explore these interests further, Jared undertook a pre-apprenticeship course in electrotechnology with the goal of starting a journey to become an electrician.
In 2011, Jared was one of 12 apprentices who beat over 750 applicants to join the Western Power Apprentice Program. With his off the job training provided by Polytechnic West, Jared completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician during his second year apprenticeship and also completed a Certificate IV in Engineering (Instrument) in his third year. He is now a fully qualified electrician with Western Power.
Jared is a keen advocate for skilled based careers and believes there is a strong need for initiatives to encourage young people to turn their passions into careers through the flexible training offered by vocational education and training.
Still an active musician, Jared recently toured with his band, Sail on! Sail on! across Australia.
