A desire to progress in her career led Darwin local Philadelphia Hughes to undertake a Certificate IV in Frontline Management – a move she describes as a life-changing experience.
Not having finished high school, Philadelphia undertook the qualification to show her manager she was serious about her career in management. While her studies increased her skills, she could not have predicted that they gave her the confidence to take on new challenges personally and professionally. At the conclusion of her course, Philadelphia was awarded the Most Outstanding Student in her class by Charles Darwin University.
Philadelphia is now undertaking a university degree through the Northern Territory Public Sector Indigenous Cadetship Support Program, something she credits to her first qualification. Passionate about the Closing the Gap initiative for Indigenous health equality, her ultimate career goal is to work with children in need within the Aboriginal communities of the Northern Territory.
